I have to disagree when you're saying "There would have been no scientific value whatsoever." I mean, a probe could have been sent to the moon to explore areas that were not - supposedly - explored by the 12 astronauts. The main objective of that probe would not have been to take pictures of the Apollo remains, but the study of the moon.
If not, could you tell me the objective - scientific or other - of the probe that is supposed to orbit the moon soon and bring back picturs of Apollo remains ?
